the custom type is mainly called custom type because it will be used
as a custom type cast within psycopg's type casting system. I've put
some more explanations into the docstring for
orm.adapters.pgsql.columns.customType (looks like Java, doesn't it :-)

Anyway, besided that it can also be used to write custom orm
datatype/column classes for custom types you registered with
PostgreSQL.
